A new company called Pacaso that was buying houses in the area. The company was co-founded by a Napa resident, and it converts houses into LLCs. Pacaso then sells shares of these corporate houses to multiple investors.

Early buying by investors actually did serve a “public purpose” by soaking up vacant foreclosed homes, said Thomas Lawler, a former Fannie Mae (FNMA) economist who in 2005 warned of a housing bubble fueled by easy credit and a shift toward treating homes as investments rather than shelter. Now it’s just free-market capitalism and big money is coming in because they have an advantage. Is that good? Well, its gone from being good to being disturbing.

Investment firm buys entire rental development in Brevard for $45 million

Cypress Bay rests at the very southern edge of Brevard County.
But this rental housing development, thanks to a surging market in Central Florida fueled by scant available housing and a growing job market, caught the attention of the deep pockets of Wall Street.
Thats a concern for a movement of Brevard faith-based organizations working for more affordable housing here.
“Investors come in and of course invest. Property just goes off the roof,” said Bishop Merton L. Clark of Truth Revealed International Ministries. “Which marginalizes a whole lot of people who just can’t afford it. Especially those in Brevard County who make less than $46,000 a year.”
Cypress Bay is a community in Palm Bay and all 87 homes were bought by two investment funds for $45 million. They were backed by the massive New York investment bank Goldman Sachs.
It’s a relatively new move for Wall Street looking to capitalize on spiking rent prices according to the Chief Economist of the National Associate of Realtors Dr. Lawrence Yun.
The degree of large Wall Street money coming in fairly new. I think this is due to the unique circumstance of housing shortage,” Yun said. “Wall Street is able to generate money, private equity, hedge funds and others to say letӒs go chase the rising rents and putting money into rental property development.”
So what happened at Cypress Bay, with the steep rental market demand in Central Florida, will no doubt happen in other nearby neighborhoods.

Blackstone Buys 17,000 Houses For $6 Billion

Wall Street won’t rest until it become the biggest - and perhaps only - landlord in the US.
At least that’s the impression one gets by observing the behavior of the two Wall Street “black” giants, Blackrock and Blackstone. As a reminder, the WSJ SPARKED WIDESPREAD OUTRAGEe recently when it exposed what most industry insiders had known for a long time, namely that Blackrock (and other institutional investors) have been ravenously gobbling up US real estate. Now it’s Blackstone’s turn.
On Tuesday, the WSJ REPORTED that Blackstone - which already is NOT ONLY AMERICA’S LARGEST LANDLORD but also the WORLD’S LARGEST REAL ESTATE COMPANY with a $325 billion portfolio - has agreed to buy single-family rental company Home Partners of America for $6 billion, betting the demand for suburban housing will stay hot even as the pandemic eases. Home Partners owns more than 17,000 houses in the United States; the company buys, rents out and eventually offers its tenants a chance to buy them. Now all those functions will be done by the largest US private equity firm.
Single-family rentals have been a favorite institutional bet over the past year, as real estate investors have sought new places to invest during a pandemic that kept Americans away from offices, hotels and malls. The result, as the WSJ reported, has been a frenzy among 200 companies and investment firms who have entered the house hunt: computer-assisted flipper Opendoor Technologies, money managers including J.P. Morgan and BlackRock, platforms such as Fundrise and Roofstock that buy and arrange for the management of rentals on behalf of individuals and builder LGI Homes Inc., which now reports wholesale home sales to bulk buyers in its quarterly results.
At the same time, remote work and school created strong demand for suburban homes by buyers and renters alike, pushing prices up and inventory down.
Clearly the tenant demand is still robust, and that’s driving significant cash flow increases at the property level, said Jeff Langbaum, an analyst at Bloomberg Intelligence. “Smart people with smart money want to get a piece of that.”
Not so smart people with dumb money also want a piece of that.
Unlike BlackRock which is a relatively recent entrant into the US housing market, Blackstone - which built Invitation Homes - into the largest single-family landlord following the U.S. foreclosure crisis, has rekindled its interest. Last August, it led a group of investors that acquired a minority stake in Toronto-based Tricon Residential Inc., which owns and operates more than 31,000 homes and apartments.
As Bloomberg notes, there may also be a case of sellers regret. The company exited its stake in Invitation Homes in 2019, selling the last of its position at $30.10 per s"hare. Blackstone made about $7 billion on its stake in Invitation, more than doubling its money, Bloomberg reported at the time. But shares in the company have increased by 25% since then.
So now it’s time for Blackstone to easily double its money again, once again courtesy of the Fed’s ultra easy money which grants the likes of Blackstone virtually unlimited funds, even as most Americans struggle to pay off their 20% APR credit cards.
The flood of investor capital comes as low inventory pushes prices higher at the fastest pace ever, and tenants opt for rental houses over apartments. Moments ago, the NAR reported that the median existing home sale price hit a record $350,000, up 24% in the past year.
.... while sales of houses in the $1 million price range are up 245%.
Invitation Homes posted an occupancy rate of more than 98% in the first quarter, allowing the industry giant to increase rents on new leases at a record rate.
Rising rents and low inventory have also made single-family landlords a target across the political spectrum.
Recently, book author J.D. Vance started a firestorm on Twitter by arguing that Wall Street investors were making it hard for regular Americans to buy homes… and spoiler alert: he’s right - although it’s hardly new, and is something we have been saying since 2013 when we first profiled Wall Street as America’s New Landlord (click the image to enlarge):
In 2019, Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren blasted Blackstone for “shamelessly profiting from the U.S. foreclosure crisis,” arguing that Wall Street’s investment in single-family homes was a huge loss for America’s renters.

Science Journals Support Claim that Pfizer Covid Vaccine May Cause Deadly Neurodegenerative Disease

A recent article published in the scientific journal Microbiology and Infectious Diseases makes the claim that the mRNA Pfizer Covid vaccine may contain prions which cause deadly neurodegenerative disease, sometimes called “Creutzfeldt-Jakob” or “Mad Cow” disease. The article, titled COVID-19 RNA BASED VACCINES AND THE RISK OF PRON DISEASE was published in January of 2021 and has been studiously ignored by major media, which has focused its efforts on encouraging individuals to take the jab.
The paper was authored by J. Bart Classen, MD and analyzed the Pfizer mRNA vaccine, stating that:
The RNA sequence of the vaccine as well as the spike protein target interaction were analyzed for the potential to convert intracellular RNA binding proteins TAR DNA binding protein (TDP-43) and Fused in Sarcoma (FUS) into their pathologic prion conformations. The results indicate that the vaccine RNA has specific sequences that may induce TDP-43 and FUS to fold into their pathologic prion confirmations.
The paper goes on to state that “The folding of TDP-43 and FUS into their pathologic prion confirmations is known to cause ALS, front temporal lobar degeneration, Alzheimer’s disease and other neurological degenerative diseases.”
In other words, the Pfizer mRNA vaccine may have the capability of turning brains to mush.
Far from prompting any pause or calls for re-evaluation of the Pfizer vaccine, the media has largely ignored the paper. A few of the more notorious “fact check” websites have pronounced that the conclusions of this study are false.
ACCORDING TO USA TODAY, which appears to be possibly the only national mainstream media to have covered this article, “Contrary to Classen’s claim, there is no evidence to suggest the COVID-19 vaccines can cause prion diseases or other neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s.
USA Today cites as their source for this the fact that the FDA did not mention prion disease as an effect of the vaccine. USA Today also mentions that the CDC’s VAERS website does not mention prion disease as resulting from the Pfizer vaccine. However, as prion disease takes years to develop, it is hardly likely that the VAERS website would contain this information. The article goes on to trash the journal in which the article appeared, quoting a Dr. Angela Rassmussen with Georgetown University as stating that it is “not a reputable or reliable journal.”
The article charges that “Microbiology & Infectious Diseases is an open-access journal published by SciVision Publishers, a potential predatory publisher intended for profit rather than academic peer-review.” In fact, SciVision Publishers makes its content freely available without charge, while charging the authors a publication fee.
There are other statements intending to “slur the messenger by the fact check sites. PolitiFact stated that Classen speculates on his website that the coronavirus pandemic “is actually a bioweapon attack and may be linked to the U.S. anthrax attack of 2001.”
POLITIFACT STATES that He also included that claim - which PolitiFact has repeatedly debunked - in the body of his research article.
PolitiFact has gotten this wrong. Way, way wrong. There is a clear nexus with the attacks of September 11 and a bioweapons agenda. This nexus manifested itself in a number of ways. For one, the infamous Patriot Act, passed in the wake of 9/11, contains a little discussed section, enumerated as 817, The Expansion of the Biological Weapons Statute, which gives the US government immunity from violating its own bioweapons laws. This nexus between the events of September 2001 and a bioweapons agenda is discussed extensively in my upcoming book AT THE BREAKING POINT OF HISTORY: HOW DECADES OF US DUPLICITY ENABLED THE PANDEMIC.
Apart from the propagandistic slur above, PolitiFact also charges that Classen provides no evidence of a relationship between the Pfizer vaccine and prion disease, stating “All he includes is a three-sentence methods section summarizing an unspecified analysis of the coronavirus vaccine.”
However, in an article in the International Journal of Vaccine Theory, Practice and Research, authors Dr. Stephanie Seneff (MIT) and Dr. Greg Nigh discuss a variety of problems presented by the mRNA vaccines. Their peer reviewed article, which is titled WORSE THAN THE DISEASE? REVIEWING SOME POSSIBLE UNINTENDED CONSEQUENCES OF THE MRNA VACCINES AGAINST COVID-19 also supports Dr. Classen’s concerns, stating that “When considering that the SARS CoV2 spike protein is a transmembrane protein, and that it contains five GxxxG motifs in its sequence (see uniprot.org/uniprot/P0DTC2), it becomes extremely plausible that it could behave as a prion.”
The authors go on to note Ӆthat the mRNA vaccines are designed with an altered sequence that replaces two adjacent amino acids in the fusion domain with a pair of prolines. This is done intentionally in order to force the protein to remain in its open state and make it harder for it to fuse with the membrane. This seems to us like a dangerous step towards misfolding potentially leading to prion disease.
The article also addresses concerns about vaccine “shedding,” and provides scientific validation for concerns that vaccinated can potentially infect unvaccinated with prion disease. The article states that “There has been considerable chatter on the Internet about the possibility of vaccinated people causing disease in unvaccinated people in close proximity. While this may seem hard to believe, there is a plausible process by which it could occur through the release of exosomes from dendritic cells in the spleen containing misfolded spike proteins, in complex with other prion reconformed proteins.”
In pursuit of obtaining informed scientific responses to Dr. Classens article, this reporter contacted numerous scientists working in neurology and specifically researching prions, including several cited by Classen in the footnotes to his article. No input whatsoever was received from Dr. Aaron Gitler, Dr. Oliver King, Dr. Katannya Kapeli or others contacted for their response. The FDA was also contacted for comment and did not reply.
A RECENT ARTICLE REVEALED that a neurodegenerative disease resembling “Mad Cow” disease seems to have popped up in New Brunswick, Canada, and states that “In a March 5 memo to organizations representing New BrunswickҒs doctors, nurses and pharmacists, deputy chief medical officer of health Dr. Cristin Muecke said her office is investigating a cluster of cases of ‘a progressive neurological syndrome of unknown etiology,’ or origin. The cases have many similarities to Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease,Ӕ she said, but testing has so far ruled out known prion diseases.

Inventor of mRNA Vaccine Asks One Inconvenient Question

Trust the science: The phrase has echoed across the world throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, a supposed safeguard against questioning what mainstream “science” feeds us - or even injects into us.
But as controversial as it seems, basement-dwelling, tinfoil hat-wearing CONSPIRACY THEORISTS aren’t the only ones acknowledging that something could go wrong with mRNA vaccines - some of the first vaccines AUTHORIZED for distribution and COVID-19 prevention in the U.S.
This time Dr. Robert Malone - the inventor of mRNA vaccines - is considering the idea himself.
“What happens to confidence in public health and USG if ivermectin turns out to be safe and effective for COVID, and the genetic vaccines turn out to have [significant] safety issues?” he asked in a tweet on Saturday. “This looks like a very plausible scenario from where I sit.”
In a separate tweet, Malone went further.
“Regarding post-COVID genetic vaccine syndromes. I know they happen, do not know how severe or frequent, he wrote. “I argue for data transparency from @CDCGlobal @CDCgov and #QALY based risk/benefit assessment. Data. Science-based Medicine. Honesty. Transparency. Bioethics. Not conspiracy.”
Malone isn’t the only person to question just how safe mRNA VACCINES are and to argue for transparency on the issue, but, as the man who pioneered mRNA science, its safe to say his arguments pack a punch.
First, there’s the question every person should ask before being jabbed - what are mRNA vaccines?
These kinds of immunizations work differently than the traditional vaccines with which we’ve become familiar over the years.
“Instead of introducing the body to an inactivated or weakened version of a virus or a piece of it,” as previous generations of vaccines have done, “they temporarily turn the body’s cells into tiny vaccine-making factories,” Bloomberg reported.
“They do this using synthesized versions of something called messenger RNA, a molecule that normally carries genetic coding from a cells DNA to its protein-making machinery.”
The first two COVID-19 vaccines authorized for use - one from Moderna and the other from Pfizer/BioNTech - were produced by this “experimental science,” according to the report.
Since the concept is so new, however, individuals reserve the right to be wary.
After all, this technology is now INSIDE PEOPLE.
But Malone’s wariness coincides with the development of a “traditional” vaccine introduced by the U.S.-based company Novavax that’s now being labeled the “Coronavax.”
According to TRIALSITE NEWS, this traditional vaccine “demonstrated 100% protection against moderate and severe disease” and “90.4% overall efficacy,” keeping this “Coronavax” competitive with mRNA-based vaccines and superior to the Adenovirus-based Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
Malone labeled Novava’s development a “traditional” vaccine for those wary of the gene vaccines (mRNA, adenovirus vectored) in a third tweet.
Malone first developed mRNA vaccines at the Salk Institute in 1988, according to his WEBPAGE Still, 33 years later, it appears evidence of their safety is nowhere near exhaustive - especially considering this technology is now so widespread and advocated at every turn.
An EVIDENCE REVIEW from the Penn Medicine Center for Evidence-Based Practice at the University of Pennsylvania stated in December that “no large trials of any mRNA vaccine have been completed yet” and that “direct evidence on the comparative safety of mRNA vaccines and other vaccines is lacking.”
The evidence review also stated that “the only evidence on safety of mRNA vaccines comes from small phase I and phase II trials of SARS-CoV-2 vaccines, with follow-up typically less than two months and that larger trials of the vaccine were in progress, expected to yield results in mid-2021.”
Of course, this review was published just as COVID-19 vaccines first became accessible to the public - but let’s digest that for a moment.
With so little insight into mRNA vaccines at the time their DISTRIBUTION BEGAN, shouldn’t scientists have been wary of advocating for the widespread use of this new technology so soon?
Malone seems to think so.
Even without advocating for or against the administration of mRNA COVID vaccines or any COVID vaccine, for that matter - SCIENTISTS should be open to all possibilities and should ensure that their consumers are aware of these possibilities as well.
Questions like Malone’s have led Big Tech companies to slap free-thinkers with “medical misinformation warnings” and, along with them, a threat to ban these users from their platforms altogether.
Asking questions about this new technology is obviously highly discouraged.
And we can safely assume why.

The Killer in the Bloodstream: the “Spike Protein”

The Spike Protein is a “uniquely dangerous” transmembrane fusion protein that is an integral part of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The S protein plays a crucial role in penetrating host cells and initiating infection.” It also damages the cells in the lining of the blood vessel walls which leads to blood clots, bleeding, massive inflammation and death.
To say that the spike protein is merely “dangerous,” is a vast understatement. It is a potentially-lethal pathogen that has already killed tens of thousands of people.
So, why did the vaccine manufacturers settle on the spike protein as an antigen that would induce an immune response in the body?
Thats the million-dollar question, after all, for all practical purposes, the spike protein is a poison. We know that now due to research that was conducted at the Salk Institute. Here’s a summary of what they FOUND:
Salk researchers and collaborators show how the protein damages cells, confirming COVID-19 as a primarily vascular disease… SARS-CoV-2 virus damages and attacks the vascular system (aka The circulatory system) on a cellular level scientists studying other coronaviruses have long suspected that the spike protein contributed to damaging vascular endothelial cells, but this is the first time the process has been documented.
...the spike protein alone was enough to cause disease. Tissue samples showed inflammation in endothelial cells lining the pulmonary artery walls. The team then replicated this process in the lab, exposing healthy endothelial cells (which line arteries) to the spike protein. They showed that the spike protein damaged the cells by binding ACE2. “If you remove the replicating capabilities of the virus, it still has a major damaging effect on the vascular cells, simply by virtue of its ability to bind to this ACE2 receptor, the S protein receptor, now famous thanks to COVID. Remember how everyone laughed at Trump when he said injecting household bleach would cure Covid? How is this any different?
Its not different, and whatever modest protection the vaccines provide as far as immunity, it pales in comparison to the risks they pose to personal health and survival.
And did you notice what the author said about stripping-out the virus and leaving the spike protein alone?
He said “it still has a major damaging effect” implying ‘blood clots, bleeding and severe inflammation.’ In other words, the spike protein is deadly even absent the virus. Here’s how Dr. Byram Bridle (who is a viral immunologist and associate professor at University of Guelph, Ontario) SUMMED IT UP:
We made a big mistake. We didn’t realize it until now We thought the spike protein was a great target antigen, we never knew the spike protein itself was a toxin and was a pathogenic protein. Think about that for a minute. This is a very big deal, in fact, this is the critical piece of the puzzle that has been missing for the last 15 months. Just as the respiratory virus concealed the real killing-agent in Covid, (the spike protein) so too, the relentless hype surrounding mass-vaccination has concealed the glaring problem with the vaccines themselves, which is, they generate a substance that is “capable of causing disease.”
That is the literal definition of pathogenic. The spike protein is a disease-producing toxin that poses a serious and identifiable threat to the health of anyone who chooses to get vaccinated. Could it be any clearer? It’s worth noting, that Bridle is a vaccine researcher who was awarded a $230,000 government grant last year for research on COVID vaccine development. He understands the science and chooses his words carefully. The term “pathogenic” is not meant to whip people into a frenzy, but to accurately describe how vaccine-generated proteins interact in the bloodstream. And the way they interact, is by inflicting serious damage to cells in the lining of the blood vessels which can result in illness or death. Here’s MORE from the same article:
“As many will know by now, the problem lies within a structure that enables the virus, originally from bats, not only to enter human cells but to deliver a toxin called the spike protein. The quantities are small and usually disappear within days. This is the most important question: What will the long-term impact of these vaccines be on the population at large? Heres more from the same article:
“Some researchers say the risk from the vaccine may be greater than that from the actual virus in healthy people. This would be especially true for the young, whose immune systems deal with the virus successfully. In contrast, the vaccine has a device that protects the spike protein mechanism against immediate destruction by the body, in order to promote the immune response.

What does that mean? Does it mean that the spike protein created by the vaccine lingers on indefinitely risking a potential flare-up sometime in the future if another virus emerges or if the immune system is compromised? Will the PEOPLE WHO HAVE BEEN VACCINATED have the Sword of Damocles hanging over their heads until the day they die?
Dr Judy Mikovits thinks so. Mikovits thinks the COVID-19 vaccine is a bioweapon designed to destroy your innate immunity and set you up for rapid onset of debilitating illness and premature death. Lets see if I got this right: The Covid vaccine was approved even though “Pfizer did not follow industry-standard quality management practices” and even though “key studies did not meet good laboratory practice?”

Lets cut to the chase: These aren’t vaccines; they’re a spike-protein delivery-system. Fauci lied, millions died: The conspiracy behind hydroxychloroquine’s suppression

Another EMAIL BOMBSHELL from the Anthony Fauci archives has been dropped, this one showing that America’s doctor knew full well that hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) was an effective remedy against the Wuhan coronavirus (Covid-19), and yet chose to lie to the public by claiming otherwise.
Not only that, but Fauci colluded with other deep state entities to ban HCQ from even being allowed as an approvedœ treatment for the Chinese Virus, even though numerous studies prove it to be an effective remedy against all sorts of coronaviruses.
Fifteen years ago, Fauci himself was a STRONG PROPONENT OF HCQ, having indicated before it was politically incorrect to do so that HCQ works against SARS, a cousin of the Wuhan Flu.
Chloroquine, Fauci admitted back in 2005, “completely abolished SARS-CoV infection.” For whatever reason, the story changed in 2020 when SARS-CoV-2 (covid) emerged when Fauci suddenly decided that HCQ and its derivatives could not be used in the treatment of Chinese Disease.
In response to a Feb. 24, 2020, inquiry, Fauci was dismissive about the potential benefits of HCQ in early treatment of the Wuhan Flu.
“Is there any indication / data to substantiate this claim from China (attached publication) that chloroquine / hydroxychloroquine can decrease COVID-19 infections and lung disease?” wrote Maryland pharmacologist Philip Gatti in an email to Fauci.
“There are no data in this brief report and so I have no way of evaluating their claim,” Fauci responded. “There are a lot of these types of claims going around. I would love to see their data.”
Fauci doubled down with deception by claiming that hydroxychloroquine is “dangerous”
After being presented with the data, Fauci proceeded to double down on his claim that HCQ was ineffective against the Chinese Virus, even going so far as to claim that the use of it was “dangerous.”
During an appearance on CNN last spring, Fauci warned the networks handful of viewers that using HCQ prophylactically like then-President Donald Trump had done was dangerous, despite the fact that the drug has been used for decades without issue.
It would seem as though Fauci only wanted to contradict Trump rather than inform Americans as to a safe and effective remedy for the Chinese Flu. Because Trump was for HCQ, Fauci stood against it, proving his loyalty to politics rather than medicine.
Millions of people are now dead, thanks to Faucis bad advice. Big Tech followed suit by further censoring all information about HCQ from social media, and much of the world was plunged into lockdowns, mask mandates, and business closures Ԓ all because of Faucis lies.
Keep in mind that back in 2013, Fauci promoted the use of HCQ in the treatment of MERS, another type of coronavirus similar to SARS and the Wuhan Flu. What changed since that time? Trump became president, is the simplest answer.

California to pay off all Past Due Rent Accrued During COVID, Giving Renters Clean Slate

California is paying off residents’ past due rent that was accrued during the COVID-19 pandemic, giving renters a clean slate, Gov. Gavin Newsom announced recently.
The state’s $5.2 billion in funds from Congressionally-approved aid packages is enough to pay off overdue rent, according to Newsom’s senior counselor on housing and homelessness, Jason Elliott, the Associated Press reported. However, just $32 million out of $490 million in requests for rental assistance through May 31 have been covered so far, according to a California Department Housing and Community Development report.
“We should do our best to get back to the starting point where we were in December of 2019. Anything other than that is taking advantage of a crisis,” said Keith Becker, a property manager in Sonoma County. He revealed that 14 tenants have not paid $100,000 worth of rent.
Newsom says California will pay off all past-due rent accumulated in the nation’s most populated state because of the fallout from the coronavirus pandemic, promising to make landlords whole.
Left unsettled is whether California will continue to ban evictions for unpaid rent beyond June 30, a pandemic-related order that was meant to be temporary but is proving difficult to undo.
FEDERAL EVICTION PROTECTIONS also are set to expire on JUNE 30. California had passed its own protections that applied to more people than the federal protections.
Newsom and state legislative leaders are meeting privately regarding the protections, part of the negotiations over the state’s roughly $260 billion operating budget. An extension of the eviction ban seems likely to give California more time to spend all the money to cover unpaid rent. But landlords and tenants’ rights groups are arguing over how long that extension should last.
“The expectation for people to be up and at ‘em and ready to pay rent on July 1 is wholeheartedly unfair,” said Kelli Lloyd, a 43-year-old single mother who says she has not worked consistently since the pandemic began in March 2020.
Lloyd a member of the advocacy group Alliance of Californians for Community Empowerment ח is supposed to pay $1,924 a month for a two-bedroom, two-bathroom rent-controlled apartment in the Crenshaw district of south Los Angeles. But she says she’s $30,000 behind after not working for most of the last year to care for her two children as daycare centers closed and schools halted in-person learning.
That debt will likely be covered by the government. But Lloyd said she recently lost a job at a real estate brokerage and hasn’t found another one yet. She’s worried she could be evicted if the protections expire.
”Simply because the state has opened back up doesn’t mean people have access to their jobs,” she said.
Becker says the overdue rent payments put financial pressure on the owners, who he says have “resigned themselves to it.”
But they have grown weary of the seemingly endless protections, which he noted were aimed at addressing a public health emergency and not meant to be permanent.
The state has been slow to distribute the $5.2 billion, and it’s unlikely it can spend it all by June 30. The California Department Housing and Community Development report doesn’t include the 12 cities and 10 counties that run their own rental assistance programs.
“It’s challenging to set up a new, big program overnight,” said Assemblyman David Chiu, a Democrat from San Francisco and chair of the Assembly Housing and Community Development Committee. “It has been challenging to educate millions of struggling tenants and landlords on what the law is.”
Landlords point to the state’s rapid economic recovery as a reason not to extend the eviction moratorium much longer. California has added 495,000 new jobs since February. In April alone, California accounted for 38% of all new jobs in the U.S. This week, Newsom lifted all restrictions on businesses, heralding it as the state’s grand reopening.
“We’re getting back to normal,” Carlton said. “It’s time to go back to work. It’s time to pay the rent.”
While employment among middle- and high-wage jobs has exceeded pre-pandemic levels, employment rates for people earning less than $27,000 a year are down more than 38 percent since January 2020, according to Opportunity Insights, an economic tracker based at Harvard University.
“The stock market may be fine, we may be technically reopened, but people in low-wage jobs which are disproportionately people of color - are not back yet,” said Madeline Howard, senior attorney for the Western Center on Law and Poverty.
Some housing advocates are asking the state to keep the eviction ban in place until the unemployment rate among low-wage workers has dropped to pre-pandemic levels. It’s similar to how state officials would impose restrictions on businesses in counties where COVID-19 infection rates were higher while those with lower infection rates could reopen more quickly.
Advocates say they were encouraged when Newsom told Univision earlier this month that he “definitively” wants to extend the eviction protections beyond June 30.
“We’re cautiously optimistic,” said Francisco Duenas, executive director of Housing Now California. “We definitely need these protections as part of our recovery.”

House Republicans are blaming Democrats for the rise in Chipotle burrito prices.
You heard me right. The National Republican Congressional Committee ISSUED A STATEMENT last week claiming that Chipotle’s recent decision to raise prices on their burritos and other menu products by about 4 percent was caused by Democrats.
Democrats’ socialist stimulus bill caused a labor shortage and now burrito lovers everywhere are footing the bill, according to NRCC spokesperson Mike Berg.
Republicans have finally found an issue to run on in the 2022 midterm elections. Apparently, Dr. Seuss and Mr. Potato Head weren’t getting enough traction.
The Republicans tortured logic is that the unemployment benefits in the American Survival Act have caused workers to stay home rather than seek employment, resulting in labor shortages that have forced employers like Chipotle to increase wages, which has required them to raise their prices.
Hence, Chipotle’s more expensive burrito.
This isn’t just loony economics. It’s dangerously loony economics because it might be believed, leading to all sorts to stupid public policies.
Start with the notion that $300 per week in FEDERAL UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS is keeping Americans from working.
Since fewer than 30 percent of jobless workers qualify for state unemployment benefits, the claim is that legions of workers have CHOSEN TO BECOME COUCH POTATOES and collect $15,000 a year rather than get a job.
I challenge one Republican lawmaker to live on $15,000 a year.
In fact, evidence suggests that workers are holding back from reentering the job market because they dont have childcare or are still concerned about their health during the pandemic.
Besides, if employers want additional workers, they can do what they necessarily do for anything they want more of but canҒt obtain at its current price pay more.
It֒s called capitalism. Republicans should bone up on it.
When Chipotle wanted to attract more workers, it raised its average wage to $15 an hour. That comes to around $30,000 a year per worker still too little to live on but double the federal unemployment benefit.
Oh, and there֒s no reason to suppose this wage hike forced Chipotle to raise the prices of its burritos. The company had other options.
Chipotle’s executives are among the best paid in America. Its CEO, Brian Niccol, raked in $38 million last year - which happens to be 2,898 times more than the typical Chipotle employee earned. All of Chipotles top executives got whopping pay increases.
So it would have been possible for Chipotle to avoid raising its burrito prices by - dare I say? paying its executives less. But Chipotle decided otherwise.
By the way, I keep hearing Republican lawmakers say the GOP is the “party of the working class.” If that’s so, the Republican Party ought to celebrate when hourly workers get a raise instead of howling about it.
Everyone ought to celebrate when those at the bottom get higher wages.
The typical American worker hasn’t had a real raise in four decades. Income inequality is out of control. Wealth inequality is into the stratosphere (where Jeff Bezos is heading, apparently).
If wages at the bottom rise because employers need to pay more to get the workers they need, that’s not a problem. It’s a victory.
Instead of complaining about a so-called LABOR SHORTAGE, Republicans ought to be complaining about the shortage of jobs paying a living wage.
But don’t hold your breath, or your guacamole.

International Man: Deagel is a private online source for the military capabilities of the world’s nation-states. It recently released a shocking five-year forecast.
The report analyzes countries by projected population size, GDP, defense budget, and more.
In it, they predict a 70% reduction in the size of the United States population. This is a bold prediction. What are your thoughts on this?
Doug Casey: I’ve got to say that I wasn’t familiar with Deagel - it keeps a low profile. Deagel is in the same business as Jane’s - which has been in the business of analyzing weapons systems for many decades.
A look at the Deagal website, which is quite sophisticated, makes it clear were not dealing with some blogger concocting outrageous clickbait. It seems to be well-connected with defense contractors and government agencies like the CIA.
They’ve predicted that about 70% of the US population, and about the same percentage in Europe, is going to disappear by 2025. It’s hard to believe that anybody in their position would make a forecast like that. There’s no logical business reason for it, especially since it was done before the COVID hysteria gripped the world. It stretches a reader’s credulity.
Could it possibly happen? It would be the biggest thing in world history. Does it have a BASIS IN REALITY, or is it just some bizarre trolling exercise? I’m not sure- it’s hard to take almost anything from any source at face value these days. But for the last several years, I’ve been saying that World War III would basically be a biological war. Of course, it will have substantial conventional, nuclear, space-based, and AI/computer elements as well, but its most serious component will be biological. Essentially, it will involve the use of bacteria and viruses to wipe out the enemy. The odds are that it will be between the US and China. But since anyone with a CRISPR in their garage can hack the genome and DNA of almost anything and anybody, there are no limits to the possibilities.
Certainly, from the Chinese point of view, a biological war makes all the sense in the world. That’s because the Han Chinese share a lot of genetic similarities. Presumably, a bacteria or virus can be bred to favor the Chinese and take out most everybody else. The fact is that anything that can be done eventually will be done. It’s just the law of large numbers.
Somebody might respond, “Well, thats horribly racist.” Of course it’s racist. Notwithstanding rational and philosophical arguments against it, all ethnic groups and countries are quite naturally racist. A fear of different racial and ethnic groups has been bred into humans, as a survival mechanism, over the hundreds of thousands of years since we became biologically modern.
All races and ethnic groups like to think that they’re “the best” or “the most worthy,” and that non-members are other, perhaps only marginally human. Biological warfare plays directly into feeling.
Americans who - like everybody else - see themselves as “the good guys,” believe we’re immune to that. However, don’t forget that the US pioneered modern biowarfare. Fort Detrick, Maryland, has been an epicenter of it for over 70 years, and there are undoubtedly many other more clandestine sites where US government agencies are working on biological warfare. No doubt the Chinese and other major powers are working clandestinely as well. ItҒs not something anybody wants to advertise for many reasons.
What shocks me is not that a biowar is being researched or even actively wargamed, but that a connected organization like Deagel is actually saying it publicly. It’s not like what goes on in the spook community is an open book.
Deagel doesn’t explicitly say what, exactly, will cause the great die-off. But there are many advantages to biological warfare over other types of warfare, so it will probably be featured. It’s probably inevitable, now that the technology has made it practical.
What are the advantages of biowar? What might wargaming generals like about it?
First, it doesn’t destroy materiel. Thats a huge plus. After all, what’s the point of conquering a country if all you have to show for it is a smoking radioactive ruin? Thats the major advantage of the neutron bomb, of course; it kills the people but limits damage to buildings. Bioweapons essentially make atomic weapons obsolescent.
Second, bioweapons can be structured to attack only certain racial groups. That’s potentially either a big advantage or disadvantage to China. The diverse population of the US could also be either an advantage or a disadvantage, depending on who strikes first. But, on the bright side, you can perhaps immunize your own population, or at least the military and “essential” workers, to control the damage.
Third, bioweapons are very cheap and easy to fabricate. Anyone with access to a good high school chemistry lab is in business. Theres no need for expensive and tricky U-235 or, for that matter, any of the junk toys the Pentagon spends hundreds of billions on.
Fourth, bioweapons don’t need sophisticated delivery systems; again, no need for B-2s, B-52s, cruise missiles, ICBMs, or any of that. A sick tourist or two, or a few packages sent in the mail, can get the job done.
Fifth, bioweapons, whether they’re viruses or bacteria, not only offer plausible deniability but the potential to blame a third party. You can launch an attack, and nobody can really be sure who did it. Or even that an attack is, in fact, being launched.
There’s every advantage to biological warfare from an aggressors point of view. And, the aggressor doesn’t even have to be a nation-state, which is, of course, another excuse for governments to further clamp down on their populations, as COVID has shown. Guns are good self-defense weapons, and governments are trying to eliminate them; basement biowar labs are strictly offensive. Imagine the bureaucratic enforcement possibilities.

Doug, you’ve written extensively about the economic, political, cultural, and social decline in the US - long before it became a popular topic of discussion.
Has anything changed in your perspective on the future of the US?
Doug Casey: No. I’m afraid the election of actual Bolsheviks in 2020- and I don’t use that term lightly - has sealed its fate. Not to mention that the nomenklatura in most major cities and states are cut from the same cloth.
In point of fact, the US is on such a SELF-DESTRUCTIVE path that the Chinese don’t have to do anything in order to win. All they need to do is LAY BACK and be quiet. The West is destroying itself.
As for this COVID crisis, it impresses me as 80% hysteria, a bad flu season that has been blown out of proportion. It’s well known (insofar as anything can be known, considering the abysmal quality of reporting and the extreme politicization of the issue) that COVID mainly affects the elderly, the sick, and the obese. The average age of decedents is 80; however, the ages of those who die are rarely mentioned. The media reports the number of COVID cases constantly, but that’s as meaningless as counting who gets a common cold. Anyway, aren’t all those who get infected become immune? A virus - like the Hong Kong flu, the Asian flu, the Bird flu, and the Swine flu - goes viral, then goes away. Even the Spanish flu, which was actually serious, came and went without destroying the economy. Nonetheless, the public has been so terrorized that they’re panicking to take potentially dangerous experimental injections. Even though there are numerous cheap drugs that can mitigate the virus after diagnosis, they’re never prescribed. The opinions of physicians and world-class scientists who differ with Fauci - an overpaid lifelong government employee - are actively suppressed. However, this is a whole different subject.
There is one thing I question about Deagel’s statement that you quoted: “The COVID crisis will be used to extend the life of this dying economic system through something called the Great Reset.” That’s a very odd statement because the crisis isn’t extending the life of the dying economic system. It’s putting the final nail in its coffin. It would be nice to hear how they figure that out, as COVID seems to be medically vastly overblown. The Great Reset has nothing to do with preserving the current economic system; its about formalizing a new one.
Here’s a wild and crazy thought. What if the real problem isn’t so much the COVID virus itself.
What if the real problem is the new vaccines. What if, after X number of months or years, they turn out to have very deadly effects? There’s a reason new drugs are tested over a period of years, which is far from the case here. Ted Turner, Bill Gates, and numerous others who think they’re “elite” have long said that the earth’s population ought to be reduced radically, perhaps by 80%. Is it too shocking to believe that some group would take advantage of this to cull the human population? It’s something that would be hard to believe even in a science fiction novel. But it now appears to be technically feasible. History is replete - overrun, actually - with psychos who try to destroy everybody once they get in power.
In point of fact, science fiction is a much better predictor of the future than any think tank has ever been. So maybe there’s a Dr. Evil at large, anxious to eliminate deplorables and other undesirables. If he exists, I doubt today’s woke transgender version of James Bond can counter him. Who knows where this is going? But it’s the wrong direction, and the trend is still accelerating.
International Man: The disclaimer in the Deagel report goes on to say, “The collapse of the Western financial system - and ultimately the Western civilization has been the major driver in the forecast along with a confluence of crisis with a devastating outcome. As COVID has proven Western societies embracing multiculturalism and extreme liberalism are unable to deal with any real hardship.”
Is the Western civilization seeing a confluence of crises coming together in a perfect storm?
Doug Casey: That’s a very good point. It seems like everything is starting to happen at once and at a hyperbolically accelerating rate. While the worlds of science and technology are approaching Ray Kurzweil’s utopian Singularity, the worlds of politics and sociology are approaching a dystopian anti-Singularity.
Let’s briefly look at the financial, economic, social, and political aspects of the potential collapse.
Were absolutely en route to a gigantic financial crisis, featuring the destruction of the US dollar. And with it, the savings of a large percentage of the planet’s people will be impoverished because their savings are in dollars. Much of the value people thought they had in stocks, bonds, real estate, pensions, and insurance could disappear.
That’s bad enough, but what’s worse are the economic consequences. We’re likely to see wholesale unemployment, a collapse in business activity, and corporate bankruptcies, even while taxes go up radically. I’m increasingly of the opinion there will be a CRACK-UP BOOM along the way; however, we might be entering that AS WE SPEAK.
What’s even worse are the social ramifications, such as critical race theory, which emphasizes the differences between race groups, creating actual race hatred. One consequence of the financial and economic upsets will be riots like those of 2020. The mass migration of people from alien cultures who don’t share Western values into the US and Europe is destabilizing. The US has, in fact, become a multicultural domestic empire.
The political consequences are evident. The Biden people in Washington, D.C. are exactly the same personality types who took over Russia in 1917 or France in 1789. They aren’t going to let go of the apparatus of power now that they’ve got it. They will find a way to re-install themselves in 2024.
What about the military? The US spends something like $1 trillion on defense annually, but nobody knows for certain. These budgets are complicated; military spending is hidden here, there, and everywhere. It doesnt defend the United States; it just antagonizes foreigners. ItҒs also interesting that the Department of Defense is now trying to root out conservative political views from the rank-and-file soldiers.
But let’s get back to what could collapse the populations of North America and Europe by over 50%. Perhaps Deagel is anticipating a serious collapse of complex society because food won’t be grown, processed, and sent to cities. Maybe COVID is seen as just a catalyst. Most people in today’s highly urbanized world, from cubicle dwellers to ghetto rats, are incapable of surviving for more than a week if supply chains break.
International Man: The report also discusses a prediction regarding a potential war that involves Russia and China against the US.
What are your thoughts on this? Is it likely that we’ll see a conflict of this kind during the 2020s?
Doug Casey: As I said earlier, a war, at least with China, seems inevitable. It will likely be fomented by the US because, as the economy goes bad, governments always look for somebody else, an outsider, to blame.
At this point- and I recognize this will outrage jingoists and nationalists- the US government is actually the most dangerous force on the face of the planet. Much more dangerous than the Chinese, the Russians, or anybody else. Why? The US government is unique in actively and aggressively looking for trouble absolutely everywhere, sticking its nose into everything. Only the US has troops in a hundred other countries and is fighting hot wars in several more.
Its said, for instance, that the Russians are aggressors because they may retake the Crimea and the Donbas region. Most Americans, who canҒt even find these places on the map, are unaware that Crimea had been part of Russia since it was taken from the Ottomans in the 18th century and is mostly populated by ethnic Russians. Nikita Kruschev arbitrarily transferred it from the Russian SSR to the Ukrainian SSR in 1954 for personal political reasons shortly after Stalins death. The current problem started only after the US fomented a coup d’etat, a so-called color revolution, in Ukraine in 2014. It then made sense for Putin to retake it, much like the US tried to overthrow Castro after he ousted Batista.
In any event, itҒs a problem between Russia and Ukraine and none of our business. The Biden regime butting in is somewhat analogous to Russia threatening war over the US owning Puerto Rico. We dont need a serious war with Russia over nothing.
Taiwan is similar. Historically, itҒs just a secessionist Chinese province - or not. Perhaps its a government in exile. But no matter; these are meaningless legalisms. Frankly, I’m on the side of Taiwan, but it’s none of our business whether they go to war with each other. US government intervention could easily start a conflict with China. It might end with the sinking of a couple of US carrier groups, or it might evolve into World War 3.
And, of course, we’re still in Afghanistan, Central Asia, and the Middle East. Plus Africa and God knows where else. The US is unnecessarily and stupidly whacking hornets nests everywhere in the world, bankrupting itself and making enemies, setting the stage for something really significant.
Editor’s Note: The 2020s will likely to be an increasingly volatile time. More governments are putting their money printing on overdrive. Negative interests are becoming the rule instead of the exception to it.
One thing is for sure, there will be a great deal of change taking place in the years ahead.
