Jehovahs Witnesses Visit

jehovah_witness.jpg

But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
- Peter 3:10

But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.
- Matthew 24:6

Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. IF therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee.
- Revelation 3:3

And this is eternal life, that they may know Thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom Thou hast sent.
- John 17:3

And we know that the Son of God has come, and has given us understanding, in order that we might know Him who is true, and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.
- 1 John 5:20

---

A couple of JEHOVAHS WITNESSES - two clean cut, older guys, dressed in suits and sporting big smiles - knocked on my door the other day.

They started off quoting Bible passages from Revelation, Peter, Matthew, etc - suggesting we’re in the END TIMES, and asked what I think.

Being witness to all the greed, selfishness, wars, poverty, inequality, and pervasive darkness that hangs over the world today, I said, “I don’t see us growing as spiritual beings, and BELIEVE we may soon blow each other up in another world war.  Because of the great technological advances since the last world war, the next one may lead to our extinction.”

They read off some more Bible stuff and tried to sway me to believing in GOD IS THE SOLE CREATOR OF HEAVEN AND EARTH.

I said, “Maybe God made the universe, maybe not. Maybe there is a divine creator, maybe there isn’t. I’m undecided.” Then added, “There’s one thing in The Bible that really rings true in my heart, ’Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.‘ Whether there’s a god or not doesn’t matter to me. What matters is we all live here together in peace, and work towards making the world a better place for all.”

I aked what else they do besides “spread the word.”

One of them said he’s a former sysadmin (systems administrator) working for himself now.

“What a small world,” I said, “I’m an unemployed sysadmin looking for work.”

Thinking maybe this COINCIDENCE is DIVINE INTERVENTION, I asked him if he wouldn’t mind handing out some resumes for me.

He got defensive.

I said “But you knock on peoples’ doors all day preaching the Word Of The Lord. Maybe you’ll come across somebody looking for someone with my experience, and can be kind enough to hand out one of my resumes? Or maybe you’ll need a helper someday with your business, and can give me call?  I got 20 years experience and can do everything from setting up to servers, to wiring cable through ceilings, to troubleshooting PCs.  What about Mark 12:31 - love your neighbor as yourself?  Does your religion include helping others?”

Apparently not unless it has everything to do with forcing his ideaology down one’s throat, and little to do with THE GOLDEN RULE.

Because instead he gave me a book of religious DOGMA.

(My idea of) spiritual beings are people of love and compassion that recognize the needs of others and do what they can to help.

I said “The sooner we realize that all we have on this planet is each other and act from our hearts with love and compassion towards our neighbors - the sooner we’ll be on the path of spiritual growth individually and as a society.”

I asked Mr Sysadmin Jehovah WHAT HE THOUGHT of that.

He said, “Read chapter two of the book.”

And left.

Without taking any resumes.
