Just Married - SBC and AT&T
November 21, 2005
SBC Communications closed its acquisition of AT&T as California regulators approved the transaction the final approval needed for the merger.
The combined enterprise will immediately begin the integration process. The combined company is the largest US provider of DSL internet services and local and long-distance voice services. The new AT&T owns 60 percent of Cingular Wireless. SBC will adopt the AT&T name and will begin trading under the ‘T’ symbol on the New York Stock Exchange on 1 December. Three new members from the former AT&T board of directors were added to the new AT&T board, bringing the total to 18. New members are: David W. Dorman, William F. Aldinger, and Jon C. Madonna; they will be appointed to existing committees. A new logo has been unveiled for the AT&T globe. It is now three-dimensional, representing the expanding breadth and depth of services from the new AT&T family of companies. Transparency was added to the globe to represent clarity and vision. Lowercase type is now used for the ‘AT&T’ characters to project a more welcoming and accessible image. The core of the new logo remains blue because both the SBC and AT&T brands are strongly associated with that colour.
